Swarm...

Guess what? Yet another guppy has had babies; so this is my third batch. Obviously I'm still a little new to this but half the babies in my tank are black and half or very light/clear. IDK if the same momma guppy can give birth to both colors but... either that or two have given birth. Only one looks less fat though. Oh well. But I have an over-abundance of baby guppies again. Cute little things.

Great news!

Good news everybody! My Goldies get an upgrade to 20 gallons!!! I can't wait to get them in a 20 gallon long tank that a friend is giving me. Bubbles will love it. My guppies are doing great and I have around 30 babies in a separate tank. I am now down to two males (the cobras) and lost four of the five females I'd bought. I bought four more females to go with my one remaining Sunrise guppy. I don't know what these are, as two are grey and another is grey with a gorgeous bright orange tail. And the other is a very dull, creamy yellow. They are very pretty though. My little fry Shark Bait lives in my tank with the big fish. So far nobody has eaten him or payed any attention to him, so he'll be my little special one that just hangs out in the bottom of my big tank.

Guppies!!!

Hey guys! Today I just got my guppies for the fish tank I received. I'm so excited! I floated the bag in the tank for about an hour before netting my fish out. They are adorable! I got 2 tequila Sunrise Delta guppies and 2 Endler's Cobra guppies. They are adorbs!!! SO excited, I'll keep y'all posted on how they're doing!

I LOVE MY AQUARIUM!!!

Today for Christmas I got a 20 gallon Tetra aquarium starter kit. I had had my eye on this particular product for a while, and was overly excited when I got it this morning. ITS GIGANTIC!!! Now, I've never owned anything bigger then 5 gallons before, but I have seen lots of my friends' 30-50 gallon tanks and this one looks just as big. I have to finish making my bookshelf appropriate to hold it before I can add water, but I'm excited to see how it turns out. I'm going to stock with 3-5 female guppies and 1-2 male guppies whose breeds I haven't determined yet and maybe won't till I get to the pet store. I also plan to get a school of tetras. Yes, I know they are sometimes nippy and sometimes not, so I'm planning on getting 7-9 of them to try and keep nipping at a minimum. Lastly, I'm thinking of 3 Kuhli Loaches and some shrimp to be my bottom dwellers.
I'm so excited to get started!!!

minnow fry (or really any minnow) food recipe

Hello all! Today I'll be sharing a recipe for food for your minnow fry- or adult minnows for that matter. I've seen lots of recipes so this is mine:

You'll need:
Tropical Fish flakes
Tubifex Worms (any form but freeze-dried is best)
Brine Shrimp

Finely crush about 3 tablespoons of tropical flakes. The flakes shouldn't be much bigger then dust when you're finished. Layer 1/2 inch of flakes, and then put a layer of brine shrimp over that. Next, take your Tubifex worms and if they are freeze dried or cubed, chop or crumble them into a dust-like substance also. Layer that. THen add another 1/2 inch or food and keep layering until your bottle is full, or until you run out, or until you have enough. Be sure to leave a little room at the top so that it will mix. Shake well.

Directions:
Feed about 3 times daily, a tiny pinch per about 3 minnows, depending on how big they are.\\

Minnows!

Isn't it fun to bring home something you caught yourself and watch it thrive? As a kid, I always enjoyed going to any body of water and looking for fish. However, from baout ages 5-8 I kept bringing more and more minnows home to keep in my fishbowl, and over and over they would die. Well I know now that it was because there was no circulation in my water. You want to know the secret of keeping minnows? CIRCULATE THE WATER! I found this out several days ago when I brought home minnow fry from my local pond. Determined to find out why they kept dying, I looked through several sites and finally found that they need a ton of oxygen in the water. I have my four little one-centimeter-each minnows in a 1.7 gal tank with a filter that I was afraid would suck them up of be too turbulent. But, it's working just fine and my little guys are doing just fine! Two of them are a centimeter, one is about a milimeter less, and one is about half a centimeter. I didn't expect the little bitty one, who I call Squidgy, to live, but he's been doing just fine as well. The two larger ones are absolutely thriving. I like my little set up- its a long, semi-bow-front aquarium and I didn't fill it up all the way, so the filter makes a regular little waterfall. I have a smaller plant and a larger plant in there, and it looks a little crowded but my minnows like to hide anyways. I have more of a white light on it then yellow, and the entire set up- with the waterfall and all- looks like a little piece of a mountain stream. But like I said, none of my four minnows are bigger then 1 cm so its not like their crowded.
   I've been feeding them crushed goldfish flakes and brine shrimp- I haven't seen them eat the brine shrimp yet, but I watched them suck up little goldfish flakes.

Hours and hours

Hey. Ive spent hours online looking at fish in the past couple of days. I am in love with my goldies, and they are doing great, but I'd really like to try some other breeds as well. I know I mentioned this in a  previous post as well, but I'm obsessed! I don't have much time, but please tell me what you think: I'm getting a ten-gallon tank, appropriate decor, and a twenty-five gallon filter, and a heater(I don't know what kind yet =)). I'm going to get a male and a female turquoise guppy and try to breed them, or two guppies, and not breed them, and some Glofish. I'm very excited about this, so please tell me what you think. I've looked on yahoo and everything and seen other people be yelled at- but please if you have some constructive criticism, say it nicely!
